The thread discussing tackle from the '70's & '80's got me thinking just how many tackle shops have disappeared since I was a youngster. I
mentioned the Captains Cabin in South Croydon which has long gone, as has Rileys of Croydon which was half tackle and half tropical fish - God I loved that
shop - and another in Croydon at Reeves Corner. All gone.

Anyone else remember tackle shops from their youth which have passed into history?

Whilst I do regularly fish on the river Itchen around Winchester. I'm never quite sure what best describes this area....
Where along its length does go from being upper reaches to middle and from middle to lower?

Its just that I'm always hearing about great even amazing captures on the lower and left wondering if I'm at least in with a shout.
Where I mainly fish is predominantly stocked with coarse fish, few good grayling and odd brownie.

Looking for a float rod for our Feb Grayling trip.....The key word here is budget, max spend £30 and if I can get it cheaper even better this rod will only come out a couple of times a year, unless I get bitten by
the grayling bug of course but then Id look to invest a bit more.
Will be using it with a pin
