First post on this site, so
to you all.
£22.95 for 60 pages seems steep plus! And although I love In Visible Waters and Casting Far and Wide I must say that I have been disappointed with some of JB's more recent efforts. Be interested to see what you think of it. Best wishes, Steve |

Hi Steve and welcome to the site.
£22.95 does seem expensive for 60 pages but I can spend that in a few months on fishing Mags which I throw away, so I dont mind the odd book purchase. put me down for a copy Micky and I will square up with you at the weekend. Pete W |

from me Steve,.I quite agree with you.
J B's more recent efforts you mentioned, yes, going over the same old ground. £165 for a leather bound 60 pages!!!!, I would rather spend that money on a good centrepin , and have a bit left over. Best wishes----John. |

Thanks for the warm welcome gents. Pete, I totally take your point about the magazines and I make myself feel better about the money I waste on them by passing
them on to a young lad who is dead keen. I used to buy every specialist fishing book going as I do like a read but one day realised that most were very
disappointing so over the last couple of years I have slowly ebayed a whole load, being amazed by the amount received for them in the process. I know a lot of
barbel anglers like him but I am sure it was Steve Stayner's books that were the final straw - and I post that in the full knowledge that it may be
controversial but it's only my opinion and I'm sure Steve Stayner doesn't give a flying you know what! The best book I have bought in the last
twelve months is undisputably Terry Hearn's Still Searching. Not on the Barbel Police approved list but full of common sense observations, tactics,
attitude and, especially, soul. Have you got any loves and hates in the book department? Steve

Do you fancy a copy of Fred's new book
I like this quote......I am selling this book on behalf of the author who may be a great Barbel fisherman but he does not understand the vagaries of the
internet.

Oh yes, very well worth reading over and over again.
Very practical, down to earth and funny too - Trefor is not an ego merchant, just a walking computer programmed to catch barbel and he explains how do do so in language that is easy to read and understand. Don't hesitate - buy one now. Steve |

Steve,
I guess you mean "Barbel, A Lifetime's Addiction ", by Trevor West, absolutely superb book, well written and funny, the only fishing book I ever had trouble putting down, and as you say a constant reference and referral. I also had a tuition day with Trevor after reading the book and he really does practice what he preaches, like you said a Barbel catching machine.................Who's John Bailey?? I have seriously never heard of him!!

Graham Elliott has a new Barbel book out called Memories and Milestones http://www.anglingexperience.co.uk/memories.htm
It covers the Thames, Loddon and Kennet. Should be a good read. Micky |

I received Grahams book on Friday and it is a good read just like being out with the man 'entertaining and informative' mostly relating to our local
rivers Thames, St Patricks, Loddon and Kennet.
I also bought a load of books in the close season including Trefor Wests 'Barbel a Lifetimes Addiction' plus the Barbel Catchers 'Barbel Rivers and Captures' and 'Big Barbel Bonded by the Challenge' which includes excellent chapters by Pete Reading, Guy Robb and Ray Walton, however, the book I rate the highest and most informative out of my purchases is 'Roving for Barbel parts 1&2 Theory and Practice' by Andy Orme although 1st published in 1994 it still holds good today and as a relative 'Barbel' novice I found it useful especially as I decided to adopt a more mobile approach this season as well as learning to 'Roll Meat'.
