After the' Lord Mayors' show,----Well done Micky.
Out on the Kennet Sunday, river looked spot on, only one on the venue 'till 4pm. Managed just two Barbel at 6lb and 9lb.. Wonderful day to be beside the river, was not worried if I caught or not as there was so much bird activity. Best wishes,---John. |

Thanks lads, when Pete netted it for me I mentioned "it was over 5lbs" then as we tried to lift it we realised
it was a "touch" bigger.A quick weigh in Pete's net showed it was 10-07 so we thought it deserved to be correctly weighed . After zeroing ( that doesn't look right) the scales to the weigh net we couldn't believe it when the scales showed 7lbs 13 oz. Its good to see you posting Ian ,how are the lads? Micky |

great fish micky, very well done sir..fished the thames friday, guess what.no barbel, had a chub and a common carp of about 10lb,then fished my local syndicate
lake and had two carp 15 and 17 of the surface, then fished the thames again monday, and guess what, another carp,a lovely 17lb mirror.ive fished the thames 6
times this season and caught a carp on every visit, yet i just cant seem to get through to the barbs,my big boilies seem to be putting of the bream, and
attracting the mudpigs,,doh doh doh..fished the kennet yesterday at burghfield as i had to do my baliff duties and i caught 3 chub all over 5lb,but again no
barbs..doh..my new wonder bait for the kennet seems to work wonders with the chub and not the barbs,as i found out on the warks avon last week.
..going to give wasing a good seeing to thursday and friday and hopefully
connect with a proper fish and not a mudpig.

Out on the Kennet today, another day when every thing looked right.
Roved around in the morning and had a hard fighting little 4lb'er. Afternoon just had one fish of 7-4. As I was returning it all hell came from the sky, shocked me, shocked the fish. Ten Red Arrows in two tight formation groups at very very low altitude, came overhead at great speed from behind me. The noise was incredible and the tops of the trees rustled. They headed towards Greenham Common then came back over Thatcham, did a sharp bank turn and all fell into a tight formation again to carry on over the river downstream. Incredible flying and they really are the best in the world. I (an ex teenage plane spotter), ran up and down the bank, punching the air and giving them the thumbs up, ( they were probably too busy watching each others' wing tip to notice). Great sight but, I did think it was a bit over the top for them to give me a fly past and an air display in honour of catching a 7lb Barbel. Or do you think they were going some place else ![]() ![]() .
Needless to say, I did not catch a thing after that.--Best wishes,---John.

You must be very special John. Last year I fished there, caught a double and all I got was the local farmer's biplane coming in to land. Didn't even
do a victory roll for me.
We often see the Red Arrows and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Lancaster. Spitfire and Hurricaine) - we live on the low level flightpath they use to return to their bases after performing displays in the south. My neighbour saw the Vulcan fly over the house last weekend. Meanwhile - back to fishing. I ventured out last night for an hour and half down to my local stretch. It was lovely to be back. Just the one bite but my first Kennet barbel of the season 6-12. Planning to go out tonight straight from work for a longer session. Roy |

Managed a few out of the Kennet yesterday....even 2 rolling meat! Thank you Jez. Still not quite got the hang of the technique. River looked fantastic
although seemed quite low. Nice colour though.

that's a result Oaksey, well done chum, Extest, lummy, being a big flight simmer I'd have chucked the barbel back, without weighing it, done the dance up and down the bank, then screamed, "do it again ! do it again !", so it must be a bit like catchin a barb off The Med every once-in-a-blue-moon, earth-shatteringly unbelievable, whatwife, ps, trust me, they waved back..... and.. I got my W key today...yiiiipppeeeee !!!....

gents, fished a stretch of the kennet last until 6oclock this morning, not even a bite,so not to be out done,i needed a blank saver,so i switched stretch
and tatics, rolled meat,in less than two hours i lost one, bumped one,and landed three barbs all around 6/7 lb,just goes to prove you dont need to sit it out all
night, but hey it beats watching big brother.

Thank you Alan and Jez. I shall persevere. I may need a little extra guidance one day though...please!! Back on Tues and Wed with a mate of mine.
Fished my local river yesterday. Very low and in desperate need of some rain. A couple of very nice chub, one of which would have gone over six in the Winter. No barbs to be seen though. |
