At long last - my local stretch of the Kennet this evening has produced a double for me. It went 11-04 and was caught just before midnight.
I've fished this little stretch for quite a few years now and the best I've had is 9-12 a couple of seasons ago. Tonight I did something different.
Single halibut pellet hair rigged on a no 6 hook. Open ended feeder with a mix of bread, crushed halibut pellet and hempseed. The current was so strong. As
soon as the feeder emptied, it lifted off the bottom. So I fitted a back lead about 12 inches above the feeder and that did the trick. Caught a 4-01 earlier
and missed another as I watched the International Space Station go by around 10:30pm.

Well done Roy, a really great fish. I'm convinced more and more about backleads when Barbel fishing, even if it's a personal confidence thing, it helps
me to catch fish.
Just one question though, what's going on with its mouth? It looks like it's got two sets of lips or something? |

Hi All
Back to the Warwicks Avon yesterday afternoon and one of the most discgraceful acts of poaching ever seen... I asked Dave Potter (UK Floater) to join me at the river and offered the use of one of my rods as he came along after work, what I did'nt realise was that I was also offering my swim, bait and eventualy my barbel... We fished above the weir and dropped the bait a rod length downstream into a hole and settled down for a chat, 30 minutes later and the rod ripped round and you've never seen a man move so quick... with his right arm bent at the elbow as a blocker he grabbed the rod and proceeded to have a great time playing my fish... whats worse is he gave the full John Wilson commentary giggling and talking like a big girl... I tried at least 3 times to knock the fish off with the net as Dave had obviously forgotten how to play a barbel but unfortunately I netted it at the 4th go... a really clean fish of about 5-6lbs. We sat there for another hour or so with nothing to show for it and luckily for Dave I dropped into a swim with instant success as a nice fish took the bait as it hit the bottom...
So I would like to thank Dave for his company but little else and I propose his new name should be 'Harry Poacher - The Baron's Apprentice' Cheers all Jez |

I went out for a couple of hours last night to the scene of Tuesday's adventures. One barb of 4-13 and a 1-12 tiddler, which was good to see.

I've been off the scene so, a belated congrats. to Roy on his back leaded double and well done Pete on yet another one, (becoming a habit? ).
Just 2 more ounces David but, still a cracking fish. I was out on Tuesday, managed a Barbel of under 4lb and another of 8-12, a long slim fish that will get back to being a double. I'm out again on Sunday,---Looking forward to it,--Best wishes,---John. |

I decided to have a change of scenery yesterday and fished the Kennet. Instead of going Barbel fishing though, I decided to have a go at Tench fishing and was
quite sucessful with a 5lb 4oz Kennet river Tench

Cheers Gents, I seem to be getting luckier by the week (it cant last! - or can it?) maybe it has something to do with DR's prediction.
Spent most of my time last Thursday fishing with only one boot on because while I was letting my first fish recover I stepped too far into the river and filled my boot up with water (much to Micky's amusement) and it took a while to dry out. When I go next time I will have to wear only the one boot and see if it brings me any more luck. Pete W |
