Morning All
I was fishing at my local lake on friday and spotted this striking looking duck.
Can anyone help me identify it?
Many Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave, I'm 99.9 % sure that it's a Mandarin. Handsome fella, isn't he. Rather than a quack, they sort of whistle as their in flight.

This confirms it is a mandarin duck, originally from China.

I'd just cast in and the duck made it's way towards my float.I was fishing the slider at 18feet and my float hadn't settled yet.Didn't matter
though as i didn't have a bite all day.
Thanks for the confirmation on the species, the mrs said "thats a mandarin duck" to which i replied "ok love" (what does she know about wildfowl)even though she used to be wild but now she's just fowl. Thanks for your help Dave |

If we'd had a "Best Mandarin Duck Photo" competition, you would be in with a great chance of winning.
Yep! It's a Mandarin alright. Roy |
