Posts: 123 27/09/2008 16:59:55	Tags : None Is it just for or has naming fish gone mad ?? Just read a couple of angling mags and all the barbel have got one, its getting worse than carp fishing !! I know all the Adams fish had names but its gone mental, just go on the sites and look at the posts, '11lb2oz known as black spot', '15lb4oz known as red', 13lb2oz known as one pec... If you want an animal and want to give it a name, get a pet... I've decided the next barbel I catch I'm going to call it Borris... Posts: 144 27/09/2008 20:51:53	ahhh....; wellll.....; the first barbel I caught I called number one. Not upwards of 4 seasons ago I think... A few more followed along the lines of 2, 3, 4, and so on. People told me they were good fish for my local, The Medway, and some of those people had been trying for five seasons and had caught about two-fingers worth. Then I started to catch 3 again. And 4 again. And 3 again a little after 2 again. Get the picture ?. Well so did I. Each time I took a pic, the camera named my captures 'DSC0024.jpg', or 'Scr656.09.raw', or some such. Pretty useless if one wants to keep records. Which I do. And I know from my scale counts (sad, so sad), that '3', is the same fish as 'DSc0024.jpg', and was also caught on a different camera, at a different time, as 'Scr656.09.raw''. So now it's 'Measles', as far as I'm concerned (she has a few blush type blemishes, but she just might be trying to get to know me...), and she'll be 'Measles' when I catch her again for the fourth time, whatever my camera tells me, and hopefully my scales will tell me a good deal heavier. So yes, I rather like the idea of naming my fish, and other people can of course call them what they like. best, and here's to getting together as a big group again, (big smiley), Andy

Me telling you "I caught two bars" or me telling you that "I caught the big fish with the two dark stripes on the wrist of its tail" I think that having a name or a description of a fish makes it known and identifiable and therefore easier to describe to others etc. Either way, it doesn't bother me but I think that names are useful in helping to describe fish and therefore recording repeat captures etc.

There's no need to become rude on a topic which every angler is entitled to their own opinion. Dan.

Especially, if its on the Kennet or Hants Avon. When it was caught, weight it was at and whom it was caught by and its previous weights and where-abouts too! I've lost count how many times you have passed comment on particular barbel all over the land. If you are disrespecting the naming of fish (and i agree with you if you are) then why bother to comment on a fish's life history. Seems a bit 'pot calling the kettle black...' PM me your bank details and i'll transfer it immediately. I did say I would give it to you when i next saw you and i havent seen you since that night!

I never heard you moaning when I showed you swims on the Wasing, suggested to you were to fish, invited you into my hired pool to catch your PB, updated you on catch reports and invited you pike fishing and now your criticising me - you've missed the point of the post altogether which was a discussion point started when there was nothing to talk about and it was quiet on here, If you want to carry it on then abuse me by PM, not on the thread...
