Posts: 61 08/10/2008 19:48:01	Tags : None Can anyone help with recommending a 2 piece 1.75 rod under the £100 price tag. (preferably 11ft) There are quite a few rods on the market many of which seem to try and cover lots of areas - i.e. 2 different rated top sections plus another top which takes a selection of quiver tips which is not really what i am looking for. Also there are a number of very nice high quality rods available, which unfortunately are out of my price range. A number of internet site have reviews which i have read but any advise from you guys would be much appreciated. Hope this is not too much of a boring question that has been asked before. Thanks Tony

Posts: 267 09/10/2008 15:11:28	All those rods are 12' if I'm not mistaken. Tony, you could always look at the Youngs Ray Walton rod at 1.6lb test curve. This rod is very soft and ideal for rolling meat but also has a strong backbone should you hook a big un. These rods are 11ft long. Link to one on ebay Paul

Posts: 2 09/10/2008 15:41:10	I can recommend the JW Young rod highly. Only possible drawback is that the tip is (deliberately) quite stiff so it's no use if you looking for something that can detect soft bites.

Do any of you lads use these rods, what I'm looking for is something that's suitable for more snaggy swims. Currently i use a 1.5 Grey Prodigy 12ft which has an all through action, which i quite like and is great in more open water situations. One of the things i have found with this rod is in a situation where you do not want to give any line due to snags the rod bends in half, which is why I was thinking a 1.75 may be more suitable. Having said that what i know about barbel rods you could write on the back of a postage stamp, so all advise welcome. Many thanks to all Tony

Great through action and perfect for Barbel and Tench...well worth a look. I've also got the normal greys prodigy 1.75 but have the 3 piece version. You can buy in a 2 piece though and also a great rod! Forgot to mention both rods come with a 1.5tc section and 3 different quiver sections. Dan......

Posts: 269 10/10/2008 08:46:30	If looking at greys rods, look towards either the greys specimen or the greys specialist. Both are twin tip rods. The specimen has 1.5 and 2lb tips, the specialist 1.25 and 1.75lb tips.
