Hi All
1st River report of the year... Looked at The Wasing yesterday, river slightly up, flow looks good and its slightly coloured and looks great!! Weather for Saturday is 16/17 degrees and showers, all looks good so a blank is on the way!! Cheers all Jez Think its ok to post catches as long as no specific areas are mentioned and please keep photos sensible and dont include a scenic shot of your swim, you wont get back in there this year if you do!! |

Quote: I'll go with that Jez, and sorry to disagree Paul, At certain times of the year I will fish 3 ,sometimes 4 days a week. I can and do fish many miles of the Kennet and occasionally fish other rivers. So which river , swim or club water did I catch this one??? i30.photobucket.com/album...y11-10.jpg Never mention which club, which swim, which beat. We also have to stop fooling ourselves that only a few of us know that there are double figure Barbel in the Kennet. -----They are in the papers every b***dy week!! , along with big fish from other rivers.---too late the damage is done. Please , please, be careful with photo's, don't show the background. If the fish is recovering in the landing net or tube there is no need to panic . Set up the shot. No bushes to hide the river view?, use the brolly as in this photo. 'Caught on a southern river or still water', perhaps that should be the motto .---John. |

how about putting a false beard on the fish so it cant be recognised and maybe a wig ?
.....only kiddin', i know as soon as there's a whiff of a big barbel somewhere it becomes No. venue for everyone across the globe.When i had my 'double' on the dorset stour someone watched me land it and the following day he was in my swim....Silly twat though,i was fishing upstream so i just moved into the next swim and still fished the same spot |

Out today | #5 | ||
|
Hi All
Just had a really quick 3 hours on the Wasing, there was me and about another dozen or so guys out so nice and quiet. Rolled meat and had a really good walk as alot of the swims have changed due to the removal of trees and a few new ones being in the river. Cast into about 15 swims and had 3 fish, all on the 1st cast in a new swim, 1 x chub and 2 x barbel, here was the best one which went 8lb2oz, just nice to be off the blank 1st day and to be back at the river. ![]() Just for the record, river up, coloured and pacey... Good luck for everyones 1st session. The Baron |

Well done both of you, I am drooling.
Can't go fishing until July, Big!! Big!! frustrated PS.--- Jez, great pic. and I would not know where that is on the Wasing.. Let's have more reports with photo's, well thought out and, let's face it , how boring to read a report of a wonderful fish caught without seeing the photo.---Contentious John. |

I don't think I said anything for you to disagree with John - at least when I said "think very carefully" I meant about what you say and what you photograph, yes think about it.
I didn't mean not to report Anyway, we can take this up with crossed banksticks when we get together on the bank. Well done to you who had a decent day. My planned trip to the Worcester area from Friday to Monday was a disaster, aborted on the Saturday morning due to my pal's vehicle's starter motor throwing a strop. We, and the AA, spent much of the morning trying to sort a replacement, but the AA were called again. I wended my way home early afternoon, he was being transported home 'oop north in the evening. Just found out he arrived home at 01.30 Still there's plenty of time left, for us both, this season paul4 |

Where is everybody?
I fished again this morning and only saw two other anglers,I know its Fathers Day but you can't stay in bed ALL day. I'm looking forward to fishing with my buddies as I'm useless at self photography. I caught three Barbel the best one went 9-02 . I watched in amazement as a massive river carp ( I estimated it was nearly a twenty pounds ) sucked the vegetation by my feet for two minutes just before swimming slowly upstream . Do you like this unusual photo of the 9-02?I'm fed up with taking them on the mat. ![]() Micky |

Hi John | #12 | ||

Hi John
Thanks for the reply mate, new camera works a treat!! Its from a swim you've fished before John, someone was fishing it and hadnt had a touch all morning, invited me to have a chuck and bingo 1st chuck!! Guess the fish wanted a moving bait, taken from right where his bait had been for 4 hours... Just for interest sake it came from a regular swim I had some fish from last year but they are in a totaly different place now as all the end of season rains from March have created a new deep hole... Worth doing some exploring before dropping into last years swims and fishing the same old spots... The colour in the water is perfect for rolling a bait, more rain on the way, torrential weather all week... Jez |

The Kennet looked great this morning ,plenty of flow and colour.
Pity about the April showers. The smaller Barbel were feeding and Pete06 and myself shared five.(up to about 5lbs).Which is really good for the future. Some of the swims were belting through and one angler said he was using 4ozs. to hold bottom. It should be perfect for the weekend. Micky |

Well done Pete.
I got off the mark for the season last night with a 6 pounder in a short evening session. Watching the barn owl opposite made the evening even better. Back next week Mark |
